If you'll indulge me...

Just so my blog readers don't think the only think I do is criticize singers on Idol, I wanted to share my latest project. Since my dance class was canceled I have been desperately seeking another creative outlet. Thankfully Mike is very supportive of my craziness sometimes...like sewing a toddler dress when we have two boys. I got the pattern from my MIL last year and have been dying to make it ever since. It is a vintage pattern from I would guess the 50s or 60s and I just think it is adorable. When I was growing up I remember wearing dresses with a pinafore, but girls (at least in my Primary) don't wear them anymore. So, here's is my attempt at bringing them back. Who's with me?

Back detail on the pinafore...I just love all the buttons!
"Mom! Can we please be done now?"

And so you all don't think I am crazy and start calling child services, I am sending this dress down to our niece, Abby, in Georgia. It should be there in plenty of time for Easter.

Still on my docket are two car seat covers, two nursing covers and a dress for my aunt from another vintage pattern.

Thank you all for indulging me and letting me share my creation with you. It was really fun to do and made me feel like I am good at something other than changing diapers and making PBJs.

Yeah, what ever happened to pinafores? This is just like the dresses I wore in the early 80's and I just love it. My mom would sew all my dresses.

BTW, this looks great! You have skills!

That's pretty darn cute. I've discovered a weakness for buying my daughter frilly dresses and stuffed animals. We have entirely too many of each, but it's amazing how much fun it still is to get them for her.

That is completely amazing, Shauna. Anytime you need to let out some creativity on Lily, you're more than welcome;) and let's just admit it, this is just an addition to the long list of things you rock at!

I adore pinafores and have refused to give away the last one that I made for Amber -- It's so cute. And buttons and tucks and pleats are what makes sewing fun! I love that you love doing this -- enjoy!

Beautiful work Shauna!! So much detail - it's so much cuter than those you find in the store. I can't wait to see your next creation.

I love it. Bring back the pinafore! I'm game to help run your "Sew Shauna" booth at a craft fair.

I totally agree they should come back in style. So adorable, and obviously you are very talented. I remember wearing dresses like that, and we always love to wear "pioneer" dresses until we were at least 8.

So anyways, I'm jealous, maybe you can give me lessons. I can only sew buttons!

Oh Shauna, this dress is truly a work of art. So cute. If my daughter weren't such a hippie/diva then I would be game for bringing the pinafore back too. Well done. You are very talented.

Your poor little model! What a good sport and he really does know how to work it hehe. Seriously it is a beautiful little dress.

I know what you mean about that needed creative time so that we don't feel like we went to school to become the maid. I am always baffled at all these crafty bloggy moms and when they find the time to be so. Its refreshing to hear that someone else is coveting that special time as much as I.
